Satellite Remote Sensing has been mapping fire scars for Western Australia and the Northern Territory since 1996. This information has been primarily used by the Fire & Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia, the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation and the Northern Territory Bush Fires Council.

Fire scars are located using AVHRR channel 2 on day time NOAA images.

The archive contains ERMapper and DXF file formats. These are stored in latitude, longitude format. The ERMapper files are can be viewed in ERMapper by following these instructions or in ArcView by following these instructions.
